The Prine Minister announced today that the

Governent, towards the restoration of roads in the North West

Mr, Warden, and ladies and gentlemen:
I would like to relieve your mind at once this is not to
be a long, heavy, political speech; nor do I propose to make a
speech to you of any comprehensive kind about universities and what
they do. All I do -want to say to you is that after the last war one
of the remarkable things that occurred in Australia was that there was
a tremendously increased demand for university training. The number

Public Service Board
Dr. Bazeley, Director of the Commonwealth Serum
Laboratories, having denied the charge made by the Director-
General of Health, the Pdblic Service Board has, as required
by section 56 of the Public Service Act, today appointed a
Board of Inquiry which will inquire into the truth of the
0 charge and report to the Public Service Board its opinion

WEDDING GIFT
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Iion. R. G. Menzies
The wedding gift from the Australian Government and
people to His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent and
Miss Katharine Worsley consists of 12 dessert Spoons and
12 dessert Forks made of Australian gold.
The gift was sent to the Australian High Commissioner
in London last week-end to be delivered before the marriage
which will take place tomorrow afternoon at York Minister.
A gold plaque in the case containing the gift is
inscribed as follows Presented To

SECOND COMMON1JEALTH EDUCATION CONFEv'ENCE
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. R. G. Menzies
The Prime Minister announced today that Australia
would be represented at a Commonwealth Education Conference to be
held from llth to 25th January, 1962. At the invitation of the
Indian Government, the Conference will be held in New Delhi.
The Prime Minister added that the Conference would be
the successor to the Commonwealth Education Conference held at
Oxford in July, 1959, at which plans were made for various kinds

NEW AUDITOR-GENERAL FOR THE COMMONWEALTH
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. R. G. Menzies
The Prime Minister, Mr. Menzies, ainounced today the
appointment of Mr. V. J. U. Skermer, as Auditor-General
for the Commonwealth. He succeeds Mr. H. C. Newman, who
retires this week-end.
Mr. Menzies. said that Mr. Skermer, was a highly
experienced audit official, who had occupied a number of senior
