Statonent by the Prime Mlinister, the Ht. Hon. R. G. Menzies
The Prine Minister announced today that the
Con1monwoalth G:-vornment has rv: reed to contribute up to
œ 160,000, on a for c-basis with the Western australian
Governent, towards the restoration of roads in the North West
of the State, which suffored serious dai. ua; e fron floods between
January and March this year.
The Corn-onwealth had agreed in February to join
with the State in contributing on a fir basis towards the
cost of relieving personal hardship ccasioned by bush fires,
cyclones and floods at that tine, and following advice fron
the State it has now provided an anount of up to œ 40,000. for
this purpose. In expressing the Government's synpathy to those
who had suffered fror: these natural disasters, Mr. MOnzies
said the Cormcnwealth was glad to be able to , ive practical
help in this way in accordance with its established practice.
