in Canberra this afternoon the text of a message wh. ich he had
received from the President of the United States of America.
The President's message is as follows
" Twenty-two years have passed since we
fought the decisive battle of the Coral Sea and it
is deeply reassuring that the enduring bonds of
co-operation and friendship between Australia and
An.. rica remain firm.

I see considerable changes since I was here last.
On the last occasion, as you have been reminded, I opened a
building belonging to what I suppose might be called the
Students Union. I received a very merry reception ( Laughter)
which I enjoyed, having led a few of them in my own time.

MINISTERIAL APPANGEMENTS
I announce the appointment of The Honourable
Paul Hasluck as Minister for External Affairs and
Senator The Honourable Shane Platridge as Minister for
Defence. Mr. Hasluck.. replaces Sir Carfield Barwic
whose resignation to take up the position of Chief Justice
of Australia was announced yesterday, and Senator Paltridge
takes over the Defence portfolio vacated by Mr. Hasluck.
