The late Douglas MacArthur was undoubtedly
one of the great soldiers of the recent war. He was a
man of remarkable talents and personality and he has an
assured place in Australian history.

conveyed to the Governor-General the resignation of Sir Owen
Dixon from the Chief Justiceship of the High Court of Australia.

transferred to the Department of National Development. This
