Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of York will make
their first official visit to Australia from Wednesday
28 September to Friday 7 October. Their tour will take them to
the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Queensland.
Like the visits of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh in
Apvil/ May and The Prince and Princess of Wales in
January/ February, their program will focus on the Bicentenary.

Australia and the Solomon islands are this year both
celebrating anniversaries.
1988 marks the two hundredth anniversary of the European
settlement of Australia. It also marks the tenth
anniversary of the independence of the Solomon Islands.,

RETURNED SERVICES LEAGUE
CANBERRA 5 SEPTEMBER 1988
Like its predecessors, this 1988 Bicentennial Congress of
the Returned Services League is a proud and significant
event. It reminds us of the great ANZAC tradition the tradition
of selflessness and courage demonstrated by our servicemen
and women in the past.
And it reminds us of the RSL's tradition of service, both to
veterans and to the community at large.

ministerial appointments this afternoon at Government House:
Senator Gareth Evans as portfolio Minister for Foreign
Affairs and Trade
Mr Ralph Willis as portfolio Minister for Transport and
Communications Mr Peter Morris as portfolio Minister for Industrial
Relations. He will also be Minister assisting me on
Public Service Matters and will continue as Minister

The King of Tonga will visit Australia in September.
His Majesty, King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, will make a State visit to
Australia from 1-11 September.
It is the second official visit to Australia for His Majesty, who
was last here with Her Majesty the Queen of Tonga in 1979. The
King will be accompanied by his daughter, Her Royal Highness the
Princess Salote Pilolevu. The King has a long association with
Australia, having attended Newington College, Sydney, and
