it is a great pleasure to welcome you and Mrs Kohl and the
members of your distinguished party to dinner in the

Exactly four decades ago today, onl 30 September 1948, the
Australian Parliament began to debate the Nationality and
Citizenship Bill the legislation which established for the
first time the principle of Australian citizenship.
I am proud that it was a Minister in a Labor Government
the great Chifley Labor Government who initiated that
debate. Arthur Caiwell, the then Minister for Immigration

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix and His Royal Highness Prince Claus of
the Netherlands will make an official Visit to Australia from
Monday October 24 to Saturday November
It will be the first time a reigning Dutch monarch will have
visited Australia.
The visit will take the Royal Couple to the Australian Capital
Territory, Tasmania, South Australia, Victoria and New South
wales. It is fitting that Her Majesty and His Royal Highness visit
Australia to honour our Bicentenary, as Dutch navigators played

The Crown Prince of Thailand, His. Royal Highness Maha Vajiralongkorn, will visit Australia as a guest of the Australian Government from 25-28 September. His Royal Highness will be Thailand's official representative at the Thai National Day at EXPO on 26 September. He will also make a private visit to Hobart and Canberra from 28 September to 4 October where he will be the guest of the Governor of Tasmania and the Governor-General respectively.
