FLOOD RELIEF FOR PAKISTAN
The Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Mr Whitlam, announced today that as an immediate measure, the
O Government had arranged for the despatch by air of over 60,000
doses of cholera vaccine and 12 tons of skim milk powder for
the relief of the flood victims in Pakistan,

The following is the text of a statement issued in
* Ottawa on 2 August ( Ottawa time) by the Prime Minister and
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Whitlam, at the opening of the
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting:

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE ACTING PRIME MINISTER
NUCLEAR FALL-OUT ON AUSTRALIA
The Acting Prime Minister Mr Barnard announced
today that the first fall-out in Australia from this year's
French nuclear testing programme had been detected at the
Laverton Air Filter Sampling Station near Melbourne. Mr
Barnard said that the detection of fall-out verified that recent
French nuclear testing was a clear breach of the ruling
of the world Court.
The fall-out is currently at low levels of concentration
detectable only by the more sensitive devices.

FOR PRESS: COMMENCEMENT OF PRICES JUSTIFICATION ACT

The Prices Justification Act, which comes into
operation tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 August, is a key element
in the Government's drive against inflation.
The Act covers a large number of major companies,
and these will now be required to notify the Prices
Justification Tribunal of any proposals to increase prices,
unless they have'received appropriate exemptions fr'om the

PRICES JUSTIFICATION TRIBUNAL
The Acting Prime Minister announced today the
, appointment of Mr. T. A. Pettigrew to the Prices Justification
Tribunal. Mr. Pettigrew, who has been appointed a full time
member of the Tribunal, has had extensive experience in
business and in retailing in particular.
The Office of the Tribunal has been opened at
4 Treasury Place, East Melbourne and the Chairman,
Members and staff of the Tribunal are attending to
enquiries from companies which will come under the Act

The following is the text of the communique issued at
0 the conclusion of the visit to Mexico by the Prime Minister and
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Whitlam:-
At the invitation of the President of the Republic, His
Excellency Mr Luis Echevarria, the Prime Minister of Australia, the
Honourable Gough Whitlam, made an official visit to
Mexico from 24 to 28 July 1973. The visit was notable also as the
first by an Australian Prime Minister to a country of Latin America.
