On the occasion of United Nations Day, the Prime Minister
Minister for Foreign Affairs, M,' r Whitlam, re-affirmed Australia's
adherence to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and the
Importance Australia attaches to the work of the United Nations
Organisation. le recalled that the U11 Charter came into force on
24 October 1945 and on the anniversary of that event it was
appropriate for the individual member countries of the world community

the conclusion of DAC Review of Australia on 23 October 1973:-
The Development Assistance Committee ( DAC) of the
OECD held its annual review of the assistance efforts and
a p) olicies of Australia on 23 October 1973, under the Chairmanship
V of Ambassador Edwin Martin.
The Australian delegation was headed by Mr Max
Loveday, First Assistant Secretary, Development Divisi-on,

AND I MET HERE IN ALBURY-WODONGA AND AGREED ON A HISTORIC
PLAN FOR A NEW AUSTRALIAN CITY IN THIS AREA. IT GIVES ME

A PARLIAMENTARY LUNCHEON FOR HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN, PARLIAMENT

The head of Government, and the head of the Opposition
to the Government, will now be able to join in a welcome to our
Head of State I welcome Her majesty as Queen of Australia.
From tomorrow that title will, in this country, take precedence
over all our other titles.
I, of course, am still rather new to hobnobbing with

ALBURY-WODONGA AREA DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, announced today that he
will be meeting the Premier of New South Wales, Sir Robert Askin,
and the Premier of Victoria, Mr. Hamer, at the Wodonga Civic
Ce'tr,-on 23 October to sign the Albury-Wodonga Area Development
Aeement. Mr. Whitlam said that the signing of the Agreement would
be an historic step, signifying the strong commitment of the

PRIME MINISTER: Gentlemen, there have been some appointments made
I would expect about half an hour ago by the Executive Council to
the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission.
Mr Barney Williams R. D. Williams and Professor J. E. Isaac,
have been made presidential members and Mr Jack Heffernan a
member of the Commission. Mr Barney Williams has been Federal
Secretary of the Australian Bank Officials Association since 1950

SENATOR WVVILLESEE TO LEAD AUSTRALIAN
DELEGATION TO DAC MEETITNG IN PARIS
The Prime Minister and Minister f or Foreign
Affairs, Mr Whitlam, said today that the Minister Assisting
tlie Foreign M" inister, Senator Willesee, would lead the
Australian delegation to the High Level Meeting of the
Development Assistance Committee ( DAC) of the OECD in Paris
on 18 and 19 October.
The DAC is concerned with encouraging the flow
of assistance to developing countries. The High Level

FIGHTING IN THE FMIDLE EAST
8 The Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Mr. Whitlam, referring to his statement of 7 October on the
renewed outbreak of fighting in the Middle East, said today
that the Australian Government was deeply concerned at the
continu,, tion and extension of the conflict since that date.
Il Mr. Whitlam said it was particularly regrettable
that innocent civilians had become victims of the fighting.
The conflict, he said, not only meant tragic loss of life

COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY INTO A NATIONAL
REHABILITATION AND COMPENSATION SCHEME
The Prime Minister announced today the
resignation of Professor Patrick Atiyah from the'
Committee of Inquiry into a National Rehabilitation
and Compensation Scheme.
He said Professor Atiyah had felt obliged,
for personal reasons, to return to England earlier
than expected. lie had taken up a post in the
University of Warwick.
The Prime Minister said he regretted that
