FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN AUSTRALIA
The following is the text of a statement on foreign
investment in Australia, made by the Australian Prime Minister,
Mr Whitlam at the Austraiia-Japan Ministerial Committee
Meeting in Tokyo on 29 October 1973:
" The Australian Government recognises that foreign

VISIT OF SINGAPORE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
The Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator
Willesee, announced today that the Minister for Foreign Affairs
of the Republic of Singapore, Mr Sinnathamby Rajaratnam, would
visit Australia from 9 to 17 November as a guest of the
Australian Government.
Mr Rajaratnam, a founding member of Singapore's
governing Peoples Action Party, has been active in public
life since his election to the Singapore Legislative Assembly

AUSTRALIAN-INDONESIAN RELATIONS VISIT
OF THE I'NDONSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, MR ADAM MALIK,
AND OFFICIAL CONSULTATIONS
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Whitlam,
announced today before his departure for visits to Japan
and China that the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Mr Adam Malik,
will visit Australia from 6-10 November as a guest of the
Australian Government. Mr Malik will be accompanied by

VISIT BY THE PRIME MINISTER OF NEW ZEALAND
The Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Right
Honourable Norman Kirk and Mrs. Kirk will make an
official visit to Australia from 13 November to 17 November
1973. The visit will begin in Canberra with an arrival
on Tuesday 13 November. The Prime Minister will officially
open the Chancery of the New Zealand High Commission in the
afternoon and he and Mrs. Kirk will be the guests of the

BEGINNING OF NATIONAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENT COLLECTION
The Prime Minister announced today that he had
approved the purchase of two 18th-century cellos made
by the Italian master, Giuseppe Guarmeri~ in 1710 and 1721.
The cellos and bows have been purchased in New York
for a total price of $ 54,950. They will be the foundation
of a national collection of great instruments. Their
purchase was recommended by the Music Board of the

NATIONAL ANTHEM POLL PLANS
The Bureau of Census and Statistics, at the
request of the Government, is planning a nation-wide
opinion poll to establish preferences for a new
National Anthem.
The poll will be conducted in February next
year and people will be asked to make their choice from
the three songs already selected by the National Anthem
Committee. These are: Advance Australia Fair, Song of
Australia, and Waltzing Matilda.
Results of the poll will be used by the Government
