SPECIAL ASSISTANCE FOR COUNTRY CITIES AND TOWS
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, today announced details
of a scheme to give special assistance to country cities and towns
affected by certain Government decisions.
Mr. Whitlam said the Government had se-aside fundis
for this purpose from the $ 10 million allocated for structural
assistance. He said: " The Government has taken many decisions in

INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION INQUIRY INTO THE
PERFORMING ARTS IN AUSTRALIA
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, announced today that
he had referred the question of assistance for the Performing
Arts in Australia to the Industries Assistance Commission for
inquiry and report. He said that he had been informed that
the Commercial Theatre in Australia is experiencing difficulties
at present and he considered it desirable that the question

RELEASE OF TARIFF BOARD REPORT -PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CINEMATOGPAPHIC
APPARATUS
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, today released the
Tariff Board's report on Photographic and Cinematographic
Apparatus. The report covers a wide range of apparatus including
process~ cameras and enlargers and reducers suitable for use as
cameras but not including other cameras, cinematographic
projectors or slide viewers.

RECEIPT OF TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE AUTHORITY REPORT FOOTWEAR
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, announced that the
Government had imposed temporary import restrictions on most
types of footwear as from today. The import restrictions are
intended to limit imports over the next twelve months to a level
per cent higher than the level of imports in 1972/ 73, within
each of the specific tariff items set out below. This would mean
that imports over the next year would be at a level about 30 per

PENSION PORTABILITY STATISTICS
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, today released
figures showing the number of former Australian residents*
now receiving social security payments overseas. The figures
show that at the end of June 1974 a total of 1,429 people
were receiving Australian benefits or pensions in Greece,
Italy and Yugoslavia. Mr. Whitlam said the Labor Party had
promised in the 1972 election campaign to implement a policy
of full portability of pension rights for migrants. This
