INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION
REFERENCE ON RU1AAL INCOMES
The Pri~ Ie Minister announced today that he had sent a
reference to the Industries Assistance Commission asking it to
inquire into and report on the provision of assistance by
the Australian Government to reduce fluctuations in the
incomes of rural producers.
This matter was raised with the Minister for Agriculture,
Senator Wriedt, by the National Rural Advisory Council on
October 1974. The Council requested that the Government

RELEASE OF INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION REPORT DIESEL ENGINES
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, today released the
Industries Assistance Commission report on Diesel Engines
Exceeding 1500kw.
Mr Whitlam said that the report covers part of a
reference which was forwarded to the Industries Assistance
Commission on 11 February 1974 concerning the production
in Australia of marine and other diesel engines.

TOURIST ACCOMMODATION INDUSTRY REFERRED TO INDUSTRIES
ASSISTANCE COMMISSION
The Prime Minister announced today that he had forwarded
a reference to the Industries Assistance Commission on
whether assistance, other than assistance by way of taxation
measures, should be accorded the tourist accommodation
industry and if so, the nature and extent of such assistance.

VISIT BY PRIME MINISTER OF JAPAN
The Prime Minister, the Hon. E. G. Whitlam, M. P.,
today announced details of the itinerary' in the Australian
Capital Territory for the visit by His Excellency Mr.. Kakuei
Tanaka, Prime Minister of Japan.
Mr. Tanaka will arive from New Zealand in a Japan
Air Lines Special Flight DC 8 aircraft next Thursday, October
31, to undertake two days of official engagements in the A. C. T.
He will be received at the Fairbairn Air Base by Mr.

STATISTICAL SURVEY OF IMPORTS
The Prime Minister announced today that the Australian
Bureau of Statistics would begin immediately to introduce a
monthly survey of importers which would allow the prediction of
large, short-term fluctuations of imports in total and for
selected sensitive commodities.

UNIVERSAL CHILDREN'S DAY
More than 110 nations join in observing Univeral
Children's Day on 23 October. It is 20 years since the day
was first proclaimed by the United Nations.
The special theme of this year's day is " lA Future for
Every Child". UNICEF and the International Union for Child
Welfare, the International Co-sponsors of the day, have chosen
this theme to emphasise the individual importance of every
child, even in a crowded world.
In the next 30 years, according to the best estimates,
