FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR LOCUST CONTROL
The Prime Minister, Mr E. G. Whitlam, today
announced details of Australian Government assistance for
locust control in Queensland.
Speaking from Alice Springs, Mr Whitlam said
he had sent a telegram yesterday to Mr Bjelkc--Petersen
after receiving the necessary details a Queensland request
for financial assistance.
The Prime Minister's telegram stated:

FOREIGN EQUITY IN MINING.
I'HEi PRIME MINISTER, MR WHITLAM, TODAY
RELEASED THE GUIDELINES AGREED UPON BY THE
GOVERNMENT FOR FOREIGN EQUITY PARTICIPATION IN AND
CONTROL OF THE MINING INDUSTRY IN AUSTRALIA.
MR WHITLAM SAID THE GUIDELINES, WHICH
HAD BEEN COMMUNICATED TO THE JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER,
MR TANAKA, DURING HIS VISIT TO CANBERRA, WERE A
DEVELOPMENT OF TIE POLICY OUTLINED BEFORE THE
MINISTERIAL MEETINGS BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN

INDUSTRIAL CO-OPERATION BETWEEN AUSTRALIA
AND JAPAN
The Ptime Minister, Mr Whitlam, announced that the
Australian Government had invited Japanese motor vehicle
companies to study the feasibility of their manufacturing
cars in Australia. Studies have already begun and Japanese technical
groups will visit Australia in the next few months to
investigate existing production facilities. A team of
Australian officials led by Mr N. Currie the Secretary of

AUSTRALIAN DELEGATION TO WORLD" FOOD
CONFERENCE
The Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs announced that
the Minister for Agriculture, Senator Wriedt would be leaving
Australia for Rome during the week-end to lead the thirteen
member Australian Delegation to the World Food Conference.
( 5-16 November). The Deputy Leader of the Australian
Delegation will be Mr R. S. Swift, Deputy Secretary of the
Department of Agriculture. The delegation will comprise

INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION REPORT -STEAM, GAS
AND WATER FITTINGS
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, announced today
that the Government has accepted the recommendations of the
Industries Assistance Commission in its report on steam,
gas and water fittings, subject to international commitments.
The report was released on 13 August 1974.
The report covers tube and pipe fittings of nonferrous
metals and valves ( including actuators). The fittings

APPOINTMENTS TO THE INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE
COMMISSION
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, announced today
the appointment of Mr. F. Pascoe, Dr. R. Dun and Mr. C. Grace
as Associate Commissioners of the Industries Assistance
Commission. Mr. Pascoe who was recently appointed an Associate
Commissioner for the inquiry into the clothing industry has
had his term of appointment extended for a period of five
years from 1 January 1975. Mr. Pascoe has had extensive
