REFERENCE TO INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION
The Acting Prime Minister, Mr Connor, announced
today that he hed forwarded a reference to the Industries
Assistance Commission on whether Australian production of
railway locomotives should be assisted against competition
from the importation of second-hand locomotives. The Commission
has been asked to furnish its report by 28 February 1975.
Mr Connor said that this reference was additional
to the general reference on the rolling stock industry

The Acting Prime Minister, Dr Cairns today released
the report of the Industries Assistance Commission on
Foundation Garments.
Dr Cairns said that the Government's decision on
the report will be announced at the earliest practicable date.

AT THE UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK
TUESDAY, 1 OCTOBER 1974
QUESTION: We had a report from your country that the Shah of Iran
mentioned a possible exchange agreement of oil and Australian
uranium. Could you tell us something about this?
PRIME MINISTER: It would be putting it too simply to say an
exchange of oil and uranium. The Trade Agreement which Australia
has made with Iran doesn't mention oil. It is not, I understand,
ot the Iranian practice to mention oil in her Trade Agreement with

ROYAL COMMISSION ON AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION
SUBMISSIONS BY PUBLIC SERVANTS
In reply to recent representations about public servants
rights to make submissions to the Royal Commission on Australian
Government Administration, the Prime Minister has informed his
correspondents that the Government itself and the Commission are
anxious that individual public servants should be given every
possible encouragement to come forward with their views.

TARIFF BOARD REPORT FIBREBOARD CONTAINERS, PAPER AND
TEXTILE BAGS
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, announced today that
the Government has accepted the recommendations of the
Tariff Board in its report on Fibreboard Containers, Paper
and Textile Bags.
The Government's decision to implement the Board's
recommendations will mean that a General rate of duty of
will apply to boxes, bags and other packing containers of paper
or paperboard. Existing ad valorem rates of duty, including
