Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
The Incuiry into the loss of HMAS " VOYAGER" will
be by Royal Commission.
TLe Royal Commissioner will be Mr. Justice
Spicer, Chief Judge in the Industrial Court.
The Terms of Reference will be announced as soon
as possible. They are at present under close discussion.

 My colleague, the Minister for the Navy, is making a statement about the sinking of the " VOYAGER" and the great loss of life which has occurred.

It is a shocking disaster unparalleled in the eace-time history of Australia. The Government and the Naval Board extend their very deep sympathy to the bereaved families who have sustained so sudden and tragic a loss.

CANCELLATION OF VISIT BY QUEEN MOTHER
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert
Menzies
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother,
is entering hospital for an appendix operation. Her
Majesty will be unable therefore to proceed with her visit
to Australia planned for this month and next for the
occasion of the Adelaide Festival of Arts.

Statement by the PriMe Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
The Prime Minister announced today the appointment
of two members to the Universities Commission's Committee on
the Teaching Costs of Medical Hospitals, to replace the
late Professor J. G. Hayden and the late Sir Herbert Schlink.
The two new members are Dr. H, Selle Chairman
of the Hospitals Commission of New South Wales and former

I indicated in my statement after the Cabinet
meeting of January 16 that the Government was consulting
with the Malaysian Government to seo what it could do to
contribute to the development of Malaysia's own defence
effort. Pursuant to this, the Cabinet today gave further
consideration to the question of assistance to Malaysia in
the development and expansion of its own forces.

Statement by the Prime Minister9 the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert

The Prime Minister said today that the Commonwealth
Government had decided to contribute fœ 5 000 to the appeal
for œ 150,000 sterling to complete the c.. eaning of the
outside of St. Paulfs Cathedral, London. A request had been
made by the Lord Mayor of London through Sir Eric Harrison,
Australian High Commissioner in the United Kingdom.

Australia Day is for both memory and decision.
What great events have moved across the face of Australia since
January 26, 1788.' We can look back with pride on what has been
achieved in almost every field of life. In this sense we are
the inheritors of the work of the past. But this does not mean
that we can be content merely to live on our inheritance. We must
add to it, so that future generations will look back on what we
