Statement by the Prime Minister, the Ht. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
After recent airline litigation, the position
of the Commonwealth x was carefully considered.
In the result, I wrote to each Premier
offering certain views and suggesting certain future
action. It has never been my practice to publish
letters to the Premiers until they have had ample time to
receive and consider them.
Sir Thomas Playford, alone, has now thought
fit to make public my letter.
In the circumstances, I will now approach

I say to the Chief Justice that on behalf of
my wife T thank you for this handsome souvenir. For the
first three or four days I will begin to think that it's
mine. A little later my wife will be saying to me, " Where
are those silver trays of ours?" ( Laughter) and then in a
year's time she will say, " Where is my silver tray?" kLaugnter)

EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, announced today
that the Governments of the United States and Australia have
agreed to establish a joint Australian-American Eduational
Foundation. It will succeed and be modelled upon the Fulbright
Scheme. Beginning with the present financial year, the two
countries will contribute equally to provide an aniual budget not

Sir, I begin all my speeches by a couple of preliminary
remarks. One is that when I was invited to come to this
enterprise, I burst into loud moans and said, " Oh, no. Look
I have to prepare about eight or ten speeches over that period,"
and then somebody said to me, " vK6,1l, of course, Professor
Baxter has invited you" and, do you know I must confess, I am

Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, announced
today that the Government, following agreement with the
Australian National University, has approved that the functions
of the Australian Forestry School will be carried out by the
Australian National University.
The Australian National University will establish a
Department of Forestry in the Faculty of Science of the School

Sir, It is a very difficult and dangerous thing for a
politico to make a speech to newspapermen. ( Laughter)
Something you said reminded me of the fact that quite a number

referred I was given a dinner this seems most improbable
