Speech by the Prgime Minister the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert-Menizies
Sir, Your Excellency and Ladies and Gentlemen:
I think I might be permitted, as usual, to engage
in a few vagrant thoughts at the beginning of my talk. One
is that I was delighted to hear from the, distinguished Chairman
that Governors in the State of Victoria keep on improving.
( Laughter) Now Sir Irving is such a master of English that
I was surprised to find myself left in doubt. Did he mean that

Mr. Bolte is a capable, experienced and successful Premier. The preparation of his budget for the State of Victoria is his responsibility in which he needs no advice from the Commonwealth.

The proposals which he has made for the imposition of income tax will be the subject of study by the appropriate officers in the Federal Treasury who in due course will report to me as Acting Treasurer.

PORTRAIT OF LORD DInROSSIL
The Historic Memorials Committee yesterday accepted
for the Commonwealth Collection a portrait of the late
Viscount Dunrossil, former Governor-General of Australia
painted by Mr. Rex Bramleigh of Melbourne. The Chairman of
the Historic Memorials Committee is the Prime Minister and the
members are; the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the
House or Representatives, the Vice President of the Executive
Council, the Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of the
Opposition in the Senate.

MARINA, DUCHESS OF KENT
Statement by the prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
The Prime Minister announced today that Her Royal
Highness. Princess Marina Duchess of Kent bad agreed to open
the new Defence Headquariers building at Aussell Hill at the
time of her visit to Canberra in September.
Sir Robert said that the ceremony would take
place on Monday, 28th September, following Princess. Marinavs
visit to the Australian War Memorial.
