I shall visit the United States from 19-25 June.
The centrepiece of my visit will be Washington, where I look
forward to renewing my contacts with President Reagan,
Secretary of State Shultz and other senior officials of the
Administration. I have been invited to address a Joint Session of the United
States Congress and will also hold meetings withsenior
Congressional leaders. I regard the invitation as a great
honour for Australia.
I shall also visit New York, Chicago and Austin, Texas and

Queensland has a proud history of involvement in Australian
aviation. Bert Hinkler put Bundaberg before the eyes of the
world; Qantas commenced regular operations from Charleville in
1922 and has grown to become a major force in world aviation; and

This morning, I summoned the South African Ambassador in
Canberra to my office to make representations on behalf of
the Sharpeville Six, who are due to be hanged on Friday
18 March 1988.
I asked the Ambassador to pass my representations to the
South African President, Mr P. W. Botha. This afte Ynoon in
Parliament, in answering a question, I referred to,, my
representations. I expressed the hope that I was speaking
on behalf of all members of Parliament in making an appeal
for clemency on behalf of the Sharpeville Six.

The Liberals have crawled into the gutter. I sought on some
occasions during the course of a blackjack game to play one
box. That was permitted. No-one suggested to me that this
was against the rules. The rules vary from State to State.
On a subsequent visit to the casino, the rule on playing one
box was, for the first time, drawn to my attention and I
readily and happily accepted it.
The matter in question occurred some 15 months ago. No

I am delighted that Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal
Highness The Duke of Edinburgh have accepted my invitation
on behalf of the Australian Government and people to visit
Australia as part of our Bicentennial celebrations.
The Queen and Prince Philip will arrive in Australia in
Perth on Tuesday 19 April and depart Australia from Canberra
on Tuesday 10 may.
They will visit Western Australia, Tasmania, Victoria,
Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT.

Exactly 75 years ago today, the fifth Prime Minister of
Australia, Andrew Fisher Australia's second Labor Prime

One of the highlights of my visit to the Soviet Union late
last year was the tour Hazel and I were able to make of the
Hermitage in Leningrad, home of one of the world's great art
collections. The Hermitage is one of the largest and most venerable art
