I have this afternoon received a letter from Mr. Young
tendering his resignation from the Ministry. I have with
regret considered it necessary to accept his resignation.
The circumstances involved in his decision go to matters
which will be dealt with by the Hope Royal Commission. I
refer particularly to Clause 17 of the issues to be
resolved in respect of para of the Commission's Terms

The Prime Minister today announced the appointment of members
of the new Economic Planninq Advisory Council.
EPAC has been set up to continue the process of consultation
and information exchange started at the National Economic
Summit Conference.
Through EPAC, the Government will have available to it, on a
continuing basis, independent advice from State Governments,
the business sector, unions and community groups on the broad
conduct of economic policy, particularly in a medium and

An industrial monitoring committee will be established to
monitor and advise on the transfer of former Gordon-below-
Franklin darn workers to new projects.
The committee, which will consist of representatives of thle
Federal and State Governments, the unions and the Hydro-Electric
Commission, will ensure that no workers are disadvantaged in
the transfers.
It was agreed to establish the committee at a meeting today
between myself and a representative delegation from Tasmania

The Federal Cabinet will be meeting in Brisbane on Tuesday
9 August.
This will be the. second occasion on which the present Cabinet
has met out of Canberra the first being in Adelaide, prior
to the Constitutional Convention, on Tuesday 26 April.
In addition to regular Cabinet business the Brisbane meeting
will give Federal Ministers an important opportunity to
have discussions with community groups, with unions and with
industry.

Prime Minister on the Status of Women
ABORIGINAL WOMEN'S TASK FORCE
An Aboriginal Women's Task Force will be established
within the Office of the Status of Women to consult with
Aboriginal women in communities around Australia.
In National Aborigines Week it is particularly
important to identify areas where Aboriginal consultation and
participation can be improved.
The Task Force will be seeking Aboriginal women's

A Special Task Force on the Status of Women will be established
by the Federal Government.
The Task Force will consist of nine Permanent Heads and the
Chairman of the Public Service Board.
It will involve the Government's most senior advisers and
administrators in consideration of women's interests in the
development and implementation of programs and policies.
Cabinet will receive an annual report from the Task Force on
progress and future priorities.

No total costing of the Federal Government's compensation
offer to Tasmania is possible at this stage.
The Tasmanian Premier, Mr Gray, is only guessing when he
estimates the cost of compensation at more than $ 500 million.
Until all the alternative employment projects are approved and
a study of the level and sources of future electricity needs
is completed it will not be possible to provide any reliable
costing. I have given Tasmanians an assurance that there will be full

The Federal Goverrm-nt welcomes the High Court judgerent which confirms the
Ccomnwealth's powers to act to preserve the wilderness of South West Tasmania.
The importance of this area, which contains some of the last te: zerate
wilderness in the world, has been recognised internationally as cart of the

The Federal Government has honoured its election commitment to
support the construction of the Eurdekin Dam.
Cabinet has decided to match the previous Government's undertaking
to meet the cost of stage one of the dam.
During the election campaign the ALP stated its support for the
project and its belief that the dam could be economically just4-ified.
We are pleased that the Government can now give North Queenslanders
an assurance that this important project will proceed.
