As foreshadowed in my media release of 10 September the President of Israel, His Excellency Mr Chaim Herzog, will soon be visiting Australia ais a guest of the Australian Government. President Herzog and Nrs Herzog will arrive in Canberra on Tuesday, 4 November and will depart from Australia on 10 November.

I look forward to welcoming President Herzog to Australia and regard his visit as an important opportunity to develop further the warm relationship which has historically existed between Australia and Israel.

The Prime m4inister today presented the Australian Peace Awards to
14 recipients to mark the International Year of Peace.
The awards, presented at a ceremony at the Lodge, are in
recognition of outstandinig contributions to the cause of peace by
Australian individuals and organisations.
The Australian Peace Awards, created by the Government, consist
of silver nedallions inscribed with the United Nations
International Year of Peace symbol and the Australian Coat of

It was with deep regret that I learnt today of the death of Mr Justice Lionel Keith Murphy.

Lionel Murphy was a great Australian and one of our finest ever jurists. He made a significant and lasting contribution to the Parliament and the legal system of this country.

Lionel 1Iurphy served with distinction as a Senator from 1962 until 1975. From 1967 he was Leader of the opposition in the Senate, and from 1972, Leader of the Government.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr A J Ayers, AO, as Chief Executive Officer of the Efficiency Scrutiny Unit, working for Mr David Block as Head of the Unit.

Mr Ayers has had a long career in Government service and for the past five years has held with distinction the post of Secretary of the Department of Social Security.

Mr Ayers will take up his new appointment on Monday 27 October.

Please pass on congratulations to coach Richard Aggiss, captain David Bell and other members of the team on a brilliant victory in the Sixth World Hockey Cup Final. Australia's consistent excellent performances on the international hockey field over many years have been justifiably rewarded with this major trophy.

officials level on the fourth and final element of the
Commonwealth/ Queensland Sugar Industry Plan thereby completing
arrangements for the plan's implementation.
