MEDIA RELEASE ' Z
IMPLICATIONS OF THE TASMANIAN ELECTION
( Statement by the Acting Prime Minister, the Rt lion.
J. D. Anthony, M. P.)
If the Tasmanian election result reflects a general
feeling that the policies of spending restraint being followed
by the Federal Government should be relaxed, then the
implications for the nation as a whole are very serious
indeed. The people of Australia elected the present Government,
led by Malcolm Fraser, to provide firm, strong, even : ough
leadership in the battle against inflation anJ the ev. . LSflowing

CONSULTATIONS WITH THE COMMISSION
OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES
For the first time, regular consultations at both Ministerial
and official level are to be held between Australia and the
Commission of the European Communities.
The Commission plays a significant role in policy formulation
and these regular consultations will ensure that it is continually

TASDIMANIA: THESE ARE THE FACTS.
Mr. Lowe must indeed be desperate. He tries to use a routine
letter from me following the Premiers' Conference t,
up his weak electoral case. The letter mentioned st : h matters
as changed Queen's Birthday holiday, Energy, the Se. an( I
Submerged Land Act, and the arrangements that must come from
these matters.
The second paragraph of my letter referred to a joint working
party to make arrangements to replace the tax reimbursement guarantca
once the present guarantee runs out.

ADDRESS TO THE WESTERN AUSTRALIAN
STATE CONFERENCE OF THE LIBERAL PARTY
This St~ ate Council, which from all reports is midway through
being a most successful one, follows what I believe was a
highly successful Federal Council meeting in Perth. That is
a tribute to the strength of Western Australian Liberalism.
It is a tribute to your State Cabinet, to your organisation.
It is a tribute to Sir Charles and the leadership that he
has given not only this State but Liberalism throughout

PRIMlE MINISTER'S ADDRESS TO THE IN AUGURAL MEETING OF THE
NATIONAL FARMER'S FEDERATION, CANBERRA.
It certainly gives me a very real amount of pleasure today to
open this new national farming organisation conference.
The amalgamation of farming youth organisations has been debated
amongst different organisations in different States for many,
many years. I think it was way back in the Second War that
one organisation was formed, designed to be one major, united
