The cabinet meetinq this morning and this afternoon has
concentrated on making decisions that will be necessary for the
Premiers' Conference and the Loan Council meeting which is being
held on Friday. I believe it is going to be a very important
Premiers' Conference and an important Loan Council 1reeting.

THE ANTARCTIC AIR CRASH
The Prime Minister sent the following message to te. 1F7
Prime minister of New Zealand.
" My Dear Rob,
I was shocked to hear of the terrible air
disaster in Antarctica yesterday in which
so many lost their lives.
My colleagues and I on behalf of all Australians
would like to extend our heartfelt condolences
to your Government and to the people of New Zealand,
and most especially, to the families of the

training of our young people for transition from school

The Iranian students who have been holding hostages in the
American Embassy in Tehran for more than a fortnight are to
release 10 more of their captives. This will bring to 13 the
number of hostages set free following a directive'-from the
Ayatollah Khomeini that the women and blacks should be released.
It appears not all the women in the Embassy are to be released
in accordance with the Ayatollah's directive. One of the women

Rupert Murdoch is making a takeover offer worth $ 125 million for
the Melbourne media ' group, the Herald and* Weekly Times. Mr.
Murdoch said he wanted to-get control of just over 50 per cent-of
the group..
Another ten hostages have been brought of the American Embassy
in Teheran and are expected to be released and put on an aircraft
out of Iran in the next few hours.-So far 13 hostages will have
been released. The ten hostages about to be released appeared

Mr. Murdoch has made a shack takeover bid for the Herald and
Weekly Times Group, which if successful would make Mr. Murdoch's
company News Limited the most powerful media organisation in
Australia. The Opposition has called for intervention by the
Federal Government until a full enquiry is conducted into media
ownership. -Jane Singleton reports from Sydney.

Rupert Murdoch announced today he was making a takeover offer
worth about.$ 126 million for the Melbourne based media group,
The Herald and Weekly Times. Mr. Murdoch, the chief executive
of the News Limited Group, said today he wanted to get control
of just over 50 per cent of the group. Among its interests the
Herald and Weekly Times publishes and Herald and Sun in Melbourne,
owns two radio stations, and controls a Melbourne television

advised of Commonwealth grants to help ethnic aged totalling

at an estimated cost of $ 4,000,000.

OPERATION TENNIS
I very much regret that I have been sidelined by doctors and
am unable to attend the launching today of Operation Tennis.
As you know, I have been involved in the project since its
very beginning and it is most encouraging to know that from
today action will move from around the table on to the tennis
