OPENING OF KAKADU NATIONAL PARK HEADQUARTERS
It gives me great pleasure to be here today to open the
headquarters building for Kakadu National Park. I first
visited here many years before the National Park was established
in 1979, and I have come back whenever I could.
In earlier years, I found time to stay here for a day or two and
I came to appreciate something of its fragile and unique
beauty and the importance of the area to Australia and to the

ELECTORATE TALK
Tax avoidance is an activity that costs every decent
member of the Australian community dearly. Avoidance
is, to be sure, a very slippery concept. But basically,
it amounts to arranging one's affairs with the sole
purpose minimising tax strictly, obeying the narrow
terms of t~ ax legislation, but not its spirit and intent

OPENING OF CONNELLAN AIRPORT
It really is I think a very great occasion and there could not
be a more f itting way to honour somebody who has done a great
deal for the Northern Territory and a great deal for Australia
over most of his lifetime. Eddie Connellan is probably
best known obviously for his contribution to aviation in the
Northern Territory. Maybe not so many people know that he
has also been in the forefront of pastoral activities,

( One Minute Statement)
On World Environment Day, the United Nations Association
of Australia launched the Year of the Tree.
Trees soften the hard edge of the city landscape, clean
the air and provide a buffer agaiLnst noise. They are
important to the farmer. They provide a renewable source
of valuable materials and, of course, they provide a home
for Australia's unique wildlife.

CONVENTrION OF THE TASMANIAN YOUNG LIBERAL MOVEMENT
I am delighted to be with you in Tasmania today not
only as this occasion marks the Young Liberal Movement's

turning point in Tasmanian politics and in the
development of this State. It is the first time a

SPEECH TO THE NATIONAL PRESS CLUB
I have accepted your invitation today in order to
address a topic of profound and indisputable
importance the disturbing economic situation in which
the world finds itself and the need for concerted action
and leadership to turn around the world's economic
fortunes. Three weeks ago, Cabinet took the decision that
Australia should put forward a package of three
proposals for consideration in the context of the
Versailles Summit, and Cabinet agreed that if the seven

TASMANIAN ELECTION RESULT
Many congratulations to Robin Gray and all Tasmanian
Liberals especially to Ian Chalk for establishing
a tight organisational wing of the Liberal Party
in Tasmania.
They ran a great campaign and achieved a great
result. The election is a massive endorsement
of Robin Gray and a united Liberal Party and I am

Robin Gray has claimed victory with the highest
recorded Liberal vote and Tasmanians can look
