TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OF. INTERPRflTERS./ TRANSJATORS
In a joint statement the Prime Minister, Mr Malcolm Fraser,
and the Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs, Mr
M. J. R. MacI~ ellar, said today that despite intended Budget
economies and restrictions on the Public Service, the
Government will proceed with the training and employment
of bilingual interpreters/ translators in 1976.

JOINT PRESS STATFMENT
In a joint statement issued today, the Prime Minister,
Mr. Nalcolm Fraser and the Premier of Queensland, Mr. J. Bjelke-
Petersen, announced the implementation of a wide range of relief
Iand restoration measures to assist those affected by the serious
and protracted flooding experienced in many areas of Queensland
recently.

PNG PRIME MINISTER TO VISIT AUSTRALIA
The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Mr Somare, and
Mrs Somare, will visit Australia from 3 to 6 March.
They will be guests of the Australian Government.
Mr Somare will arrive in Sydney on 3 March, spend 4 to
March in Canberra, and thien return to Sydney from where he
will leave for New Zealand to attend a special meeting of the
South Pacific forum.

PRIME MINISTER TO VISiT NEW ZEALAND
My visit to New Zealand from 8 March to 11 March is in
response to an invitation from the New Zealand Prime Minister,
Mr Muldoon, for discussions on matters of mutual interest.
The visit will also provide the opportunity to attend the
special meeting of the South Pacific Forum which is being
held in New Zealand ( at Lake Okataina on 8-9 March) and to
explore with South Pacific the ways in which Australia can

ROCKEFELLER VISIT
The United States Vice-President, Mr Nelson Rockefeller,
and his wife, will visit Australia from 29 March to
1 April, as guests of the Australian Government.
While in Australia Mr Rockefeller will hold talks with the
Prime Minister and senior Ministers and take part in the
United States bicentennial celebrations.
Mr Rockefeller will be in Canberra from 29 March to
31 March. On 31 March he will go to Sydney to be guest

Consequent upon the Government's decision to increase the emphasis on program review, moves are being made in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to discontinue the separate existence of the Priorities Review Staff and to create within the Department a new Division - the Projects Division - to concentrate on program review.

NATIONAL CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION STAFF
On 9th February eight days ago in announcing staff ceilings
to apply at 30th June, I stated that departments and authorities
were expected to reach their revised staff ceilings by
processes of natural wastage, such as retirements and resignation.
Minister3 and the Public Service Board were asked to keep me
informed as to any difficulty encountered in achieving the
ceilings b% 30th June.
