This is a very special day for the people of Hobart. It is
a most significant day in the continuing development of this
wonderful city.

fine complex. The Knights of the Southern Cross, the Sisters
of the Good Shepherd and of course the people of Hobart

ADDRESS AT THE FEDERALISM BANQUET, MELBOURNE
I am pleased to be here tonight to celebrate the 75th anniversary
of the Federal system among so many people whose lives have
been moulded in one way or another by Federalism.
These include Federal parliamentarians, State parliamentarians,
High Court Judges, Constitutional lawyers and Commonwealth and
State public servants and citizens.

MESSAGE OF SYMPATHY
The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. M. Fraser, yesterday
sent the following message of sympathy to the Chinese Premier,
Mr. Hua Kuo-feng:
' T was saddened to hear of the damage and destruction in
North East China caused by the disastrous earthquake on
28 July.
On behalf of the Australian Government and people, I wish
to extend to your Excellency and, through you, to the Chinese
people in the affected~ area, my deepest sympathy.

AT HARVARD UNIVERSITY 30 JULY 1976
Mr President, Mr Mayor, ladies and gentlemen,
thank you very much for your hospitality today. My wife
and I have had a wonderful time in the last few days in
the United States. We have been kept a little bit too
busy I think perhaps, but that may be our fault more than
the fault of other people. I would also like to pay
tribute to Professor Manning Clark who conducted a number

STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER ON FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN
AUSTRALIA, AT THE BROOK CLUB, NEW YORK 29 JULY 1976
The Prime Minister said tonight in New York that
his discussions here had indicated a strong endorsement by
leading American financiers and businessmen of Australia's
policy of seeking local equity participation in foreign
investment where possible. He said that there had been no
questioning of the Government's approach in this area.

The Acting Prime Minister, Mr Anthony, today announced
on behalf of the Prime Minister the appointment of three members
to the Council of the Film and Television School.
Mr Anthony said Mr Tom M. Jeffrey, a Sydney film and
television director, has joined the Council as Chairman, a three
year part-time appointment.
Mr Jeffrey was previously Chairman of the Australia
Council's Film, Radio and Television Board and has had a long

At the invitation of President Gerald R. Ford of the
United States of America, the Right Honourable Malcolm Fraser,
Prime Minister of Australia, made an official visit to
Washington on 27, 28 and 29 July0 This was Prime Minister
Fraser's first visit to the United States since assuming office.
During his visit the Prime Minister held talks with the President,
