ROYAL COMMISSION ON AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION 9TH DECEMBER, 1976.
The Royal Commission on Australian Government Administration,
under the chairmanship of Dr. H. C. Coombs, presented its report
in July of this year.
In announcing the submission of the report at that time, I said
that the Government would study carefully and give thorough
consideration to the recommendations made by the Commiss~ ion on
the principles for more efficient administration. The necessary

ECONOMIC STATEMENT
Throughout this year, the Government has had one clear goal in front of it.
That goal is a sustainable economic recovery a recovery whichwill lead
Australia towards sustained economic growth, and increasing employment
opportunities. A pre-requisite for achieving that goal is the c * ontrol
of inflation. The dominant goal of our whole economic strategy has beenand
remains directed to the control of inflation.
In this statement, I want to set the measures of the last two weeks in

MARITIME COLLEGE SITE. CHOSEN
The Prime Minister announced today that the main site of
the-Australian Maritime College will be at Newnham, adjacent
to the Launceston campus of the Tasmanian College of
Advanced Education.
Mr. Fraser said that the Maritime College's Interim
Council had resolved, at its recent first meeting, to
recommend this site. The Government had agreed with the
choice which came as the culmination of substantial
investigation by the Commonwealth, over a period of

What Australians want is prosperity, stability and security.
A year ago the Government took over the economic management
of a country in which a generation of progress had been
destroyed, and from which the prosperity, stability and
security which Australians had come to take for granted,
had disappeared. We began the fight against inflation
immediately. The Government's goal was economic restoration with the

The annivei-sary we are celebrating tonight is one worth
-celebrating., December 13, 1975 will, -go down-as one of the
really important dates in Australian history.
The 1975 election stands alongside 1949. The Australian people
made one of their crucial decisions they chose freedom,
responsibility, and constitutional government.
Members of the Liberal Party around Australia worked for that

VISIT OF PRESIDENT OF NAURU
The President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency
Dr Hammer DeRoburt, 0. B. will make. an official
visit to-Australia from Thursday December 9 to Thursday
December 16, at the invitation of the Governor-General.
The Presid ent will be accompanied by Madame DeRoburt.
After visiting Canberra they will visit Queensland, New
South Wales and Victoria.
President DeRoburt will have discussions in Canberra with
the Prime Minister, the Treasurer and other senior Ministers.

TURKISH EARTHQUAKE
The Prime Minister sent the following message to the Prime
Minister of Turkey.
The Australian Government has learnt with sorrow and deep
concern of the death and devastation wrought by the recent
earthquake in Eastern Turkey. On behal f of the Government
and of all Australians, I extend sincere sympathy and
condolence to the Turkish Government and to the Turkish
people in their present distress.

I am very pleased to be back here in Georgetown in the
Bass electorate. Gecirgetown and Bass will always have a
special place in Australian history.
In the by-election here in June last year by your decision
you gave heart to people all around Australia.
It certainly gave gipeat heart to those of us who were
work ing to halt Australia's disastrous downward slide and
to turn Australia towards economic recovery.
