LAUNCHING OF THE SIR ROBERT MENZIES MEMORIAL TRUST APPEAL

It gives me a great deal of pleasure to support His Excellency
in the remarks he made this morning to launch the appeal for
the Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Foundation. I am sure that
the appeal will have a very ready response right around
Australia, in all States and from all people, in all walks
of life throughout Australia.
We may be still too close to Sir Robert Menzies' own time to
be able to assess fully the mark that he left on Austalian

PRIME MINISTER'S PRESS CONFERENCE: MANILA, PHILIPPINES
PRIME MINISTER
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the conclusion of what I believe
to be a very successful visit to the Philippines. A rapport
has been established between the President and myself, between
our two governments. Two agreements have been signed and that
was not expected. That was not planned when I was first
asked to come here, but the discussions and relationship
has developed to the extent that that has been possible.

JOINT COMMNUNIQUE: PRESIDENTr MARCOS AND PRIME MINISTER FRASER
At the invitation of His Excellency President Ferdinand E3. Marcos,
the Prime Minister of Australia, the Rt. Hon. Malcolm Fraser,
made an official visit to the Republic of the Philippines from
8 to 11 May 1979.
During the visit the President and the Prime Minister held
extensive discussions on a wide range of subjects of mutual interest.
The talks were held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere,

TASK FORCE ON1 DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION
The Prime Minister has written to State Premiers seeking
their co-operation in a study of the way Government Departments
provide information to groups and individuals in the community.
Mr Fraser said he was writing to the Premiers because many
of the problems and issues of concern to the Commonwealth
Government in this area also confronted State Government
departments. State Governments had adopted a range of different approaches
to the question of departmental information. " I am sure that

ELECTORATE TALK
This week I will be leaving for a brief visit to the
Philippines, where the 5th Session of the United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development is beginning.
I was pleased to accept the long-standing invitation from
President MarTcos to visit his couintry.
Australia and the Philippines have a warm relationship.
Apart from cultural and tourist links, trade between us is
growing fast, with total two-way trade now nearing $ 200 million.
The Philippines is also an important member of the ASEAN group

JOINT TASK FORCE ON DRUG TRAFFICKING
The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Fraser, and the Premier of
New South Wales, Mr Wran, today jointly announced the establishment
of a Commonwealth/ State Task Force aimed at securing convictions
of persons engaged in drug-trafficking.
The two leaders said that the establishment of the Task Force
flowed from the joint recommendations of the Commonwealth
and New South Wales Royal Commissioners on Drugs, Mr Justice Williams

VISIT OF VICE-PRESIDENT GUNDELACH TO AUSTRALIA
The Vice-President of the E. E. C. Commission, Mr. F. O. Gundelach,
will visit Australia in the wcck commencing May 28, as guest
of the Australian Government.
Mr. Gundelach's visit is the result of an initiative I took with
President Jenkins of the E. E. C. Commission in June 1977 to
resolve trade differences between Australia and the E. E. C.
As the Commissioner within the E. E. C. Commission responsible
for agriculture, Mr. Gundelach has been a key figure in the
