The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, released the following
statement when he left Amberley late last night to return to
Canberra.. He had spent four days of intensive campaigning
for the Queensland State election.
The Bjelke-Petersen Government is cheating Queenslanders
of the benefits of increased Australian Government funds for
education, housing and local government. It is cutting back
its own expenditures in areas where the Australian Government
has given more money.

CRUDE OIL POLICY
The Prime Minister announced that a regulation under
the Prices Justification Act 1973-1974 had been gazetted today
removing the supply of Australian indigenous crude oil from the
application of that Act. The recently announced proposed price
increase by Ampol Exploration Ltd. will thus no longer come
within the jurisdiction of the Prices Justification Tribunal.
The Prime Minister stated that the price applicable
to indigenous crude oil production was determined in October

SURF LIPX SAVING CLUB GRANTS SURFEURS PAIAfLISE

The Prime Minister said today he was concerned to
read of the Gold Coast City Council's decision to restrict
daily patrols of beaches during the peak school holiday
period. He hoped the Council's appeal to the Premier would
succeed. Mr Whitlam was speaking at Surfers Paradise where
he held a pross conference this morning.

PRIME MINISTER: For the benefit of the news persons from the
South, I should introduce you to Mrs. Marian Reed, the candidate
for the Gold Coast State Electorate, and Bill Darcy, the M. L. A.
for Albert. Needless to say, if Queensland's Parliament was
composed on a democratic basis there would be twice as many
members from this area because the electorates are the most
populace in the* State.

The Prime Minister today released a list of Gold Coast
projects approved by the REYDS Committee of ministers at their
last meeting in Canberra on 13SNoiember. Mr Whitlam was
holding a press conference at Suri ers Paradise.
The Regional Employment Development Scheme is designed
to improve employment opportunities in areas of high unemployment
by encouraging local initiative in these areas to develop
suitable work programs.

RURAL LOCAL ROADS
During a visit to Redland Bay, the Prime Minister said
he had been informed that the local Redland Shire Council had
been forced to stop road work on Stradbroke Island by a delay
in the allocation of funds provided by the Australian Government.
To date this financial year, the Australian Government
has provided $ 23.4 million to the Queensland Government for
road construction and maintenance. This represents four months'
allocation of the total amount to be provided to the Queensland
