VIETNAMESE'CHILDREN
The Prime Minister, Mr ' Whitlam, said today that the
Government of the Republic of Vietnam had agreed to
facilitate arrangements for Vietnamese orphans to come
to Australia. In a special message to State Premiers, Mr Whitlam
repeated his appeal for the States to finalise as
expeditiously as possible decisions on applications for
permi ssion to adopt Vietnamese orphans. Children would
be flown from Saigon to Australia by the R. A. A. F. as

RETURN OF VIETNAMESE AND CAMBODIAN STUDENTS
The Prime Minister and Acting Minister for Foreign
Affairs, Mr Whitlam. said today that students from Vietnam
and Cambodia studying in Australia would be allowed to
defer their return home.
Sponsored overseas students are normally required to
return to their homelands when they have completed their
studies in Australia, but they have in the past been

STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER TO LAUNCH THE
INDO-CHINA/ VIETNAM APPEAL
I know that I speak for all Australians in expressing
my deep concern at the current-plight of refugees in
Indo-China. Today, the Disaster Emergency Committee of the Australian
Council for Overseas Aid opens the national Indo-China
Vietnam Appeal so that Australians will have an opportunity
to contribute personally to the organisations which are
helping suffering people in these areas.

AUSTRALIAN AID TO REFUGEES IN INDO-CHINA
The Prime Minister, and Actirkg Minister for Foreign
Affairs, Mr Whitlam, announced today a further contribution
of $ A 1 million for relief work among refugees in Indo-China.
He said that this sum had been offered to the United
Nations HighCojmissioner. for Refugees It was additional
to the $ 200,000 announced on 28 March for the Indo-China operational
group of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Mr ' Whitlam, announced today that the Australian Government
is giving an additional $ 400,. 9000 of food aid to Ethiopia.
Mr Whitlam said that this aid was being given
because of the continuing need of the Ethiopian-authorities
for international assistance in the procurement and
p distribution of food to rural areas. Ethiopia is also

FOR PRESS AUSTRALIA AID TO REFUGEES IN INDO-CHINA
The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Whitlam, announced
today that a contribution of $ 200,000 was being given as an initial
response to an urgent appeal from the International Committee of
the Red Cross for funds to assist its Indo-China Operational Group
in making purchases for refugees in Cambodia and Vietnam. A
Wcheque for this amount was given to the President of ICRC by the
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Willesee, in Geneva yesterday.
