The Prime Minister and Member for Werriwa,
Mr Whitlam today confirmed another RED scheme project
for the Camden area. It is a University of Sydney
undertaking involving roadworks, sewage treatment
and two dams at Camden Bringelly. The estimated
total cost is $ 47,610 and the Australian Government
will provide assistance of $ 43,324 which will employ
eight unemployed workers for 24 weeks.

Mr. Whitlan: Ladies and gentlemen, when I announced the
ministerial changes last Thursday night, I didn't include details
of the Ministers assisting. As you will notice, there are now
several departments which have been given additional responsibilities,
so there is a need to have additional Assistant Ministers.
Senator Bishop, the Postmaster-General, will also be Minister
assisting the Minister for Defence. You remember that he did
act as Assistant Minister earlier, before Mr. Morrison became

VISIT OF SOVIET EARTH SCIENCES DELEGATION
The Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister,
Mr E. G. Whitlam, announced today that a party of four Soviet
earth scientists arrived in Sydney this morning, Tuesday 10 June.
The group is visiting Australia for two weeks under the auspices
of the Australian/ Soviet Science Agreement. Another Soviet
earth scientist, who is already in Australia, will join the
delegation in Adelaide. During their Australian visit the Soviet earth

MESSAGE OF SYMPATHY TO BURMA
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, said today
that the Government has expressed its sympathy to the
people of Burma for the loss of life and damage caused
by the recent cyclone in the Irrawaddy Division of
Burma. He said that in the light of Australia's
recent Darwin experiences the Government appreciated
the difficulties and challenges the Burmese Government
faced in the task of reconstruction.

to believe that France had carried out an underground nuclear
test on Fangataufa atoll in the Pacific Ocean on 6 June.

International Women's Year Grants
The Prime Minister, . Mr Whitlam, announced today
further funds and assistance for special activities during
International. Women's Year. This is the third in a series
of grants approved over the last six months and represents
a total commitment so far of over one million dollars ($ 1,080,582).
Mr Whitlam said that he had approved the grants on
the advice of the Australian National Advisory Committee for
International Women's Year which has the responsibility for

NEW MINISTRY
The Prime Minister tonight announced that he had
recommended to His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir John
Kerr, changes in his ministry consequent upon the resignation
of Mr Lance Barnard from the House of Representatives and the
appointment of Mr J. M. Riordan to the Executive Council.
The Governor-General has agreed to the proposed
changes and to an announcement. Sir John has indicated that
he proposes to swear Ministers in their new portfolios tomorrow
morning at 10.00 a. m.
