INDUSTRIES ASSISTANCE COMMISSION
The Prime Minister announced today that Cabinet
had agreed to recommend at the appropriate time to the
Executive Council that Mr G. A. Rattigan, C. B. E. be
appointed as Chairman of the Industries Assistance
Commission. The drafting of legislation to establish the
Commission is proceeding as a matter of urgency and will
be considered by Ministers as soon as possible.
Mr Rattigan will assist in the drafting of the legislation.

PRICES JUSTIFICATION TRIBUNAL
The Prime Minister, Mr Whitlam, announced today
the further action which has been taken to bring the
Prices Justification Act into operation on 1 August 1973.
The following further appointments have been
made to the Tribunal: Mr J. K. Lawrence
Dr A. Fels
Mr R. N. R. Johnston
Mr Lawrence is at present First Assistant
Auditor-General and he will be a full-time member of the
Tribunal. Dr Fels is the Senior Lecturer in Economics at

AUSTRALIAN GOVERZThENT GAZETTE
The Prime Minister, Mr. E. G. Whitlam, 14. P.,
announced today that the Governor-General, Sir Paul Hasluck,
had on the recommendation of the Government issued a direction
for the Australian Government Gazette to be published in place
of the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette from 1 July 1973.
In making his announcement, the Prime Minister said that this
change had been foreshadowed in amendments to the Acts

ROYAL VISITS 1973 AND 1974:
APPOINTMENT OF AUSTRALIAN EQUERRY TO THE QUEEN
The Queen has approved the appointment
of Squadron Leader K. G. Smith, Royal Australian
Air Force, as Australian Equerry to The Queen
for her visits to Australia in October' 1973 and
February/ March 1974.
The appointment follows advice from
London that Her Majesty would be glad to have
an Australian Equerry appointed for these visits.

The Australian Government and the State Premiers have
arrived at agreement on the following matters during the discussions
that have taken place;
Welfare Housing The States will enter into a Housing Agreement with the
Australian Government under which the following advances for welfare
housing will be made to the States in 1973-74 amounts allocated by
the States for housing in 1972-73 are shown for comparison:-

PRIME MINISTER: Thanks gentlemen. The Cabinet sat in Sydney
yesterday morning and afternoon and here in Canberra this
morning. Most of the time yesterday was devoted to the
briefing for the Treasurer, Mr Crean, and myself at the Premiers'
Conference in Canberra next Thursday and Friday. Clearly,
I can't give you any information or answer any questions about
this because it is clearly portion of the general Budget

FILM AND TELEVISION SCHOOL
The Prime Minister, Mr. Whitlam, today announced the
names of those invited to join the permanent Council of the Film
and Television School.
The Prime Minister said that the Interim Council of
the Film and Television School had been set up in 1969 to
advise the Government on the necessary steps to bring the
School into operation. This work had now been done and
Professor Jerzy Toeplitz had been appointed as the School's
foundation Director.

DECISION OF THE INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE ON
FRENCH NUCLEAR TESTS
If, as e.-pected, the International Court of
Justice announces its decision on the French nuclear
tests tonight ( Australian time), the Department of Foreign
Affairs will handle all. press enquiries.
Any comment made by the Prime Minister will be
released by the department, and all further en~ quiries
regarding the decision should be directed to Mr. Denni11s
Richardson on Canberra 613222 until 10.00 p. p.

AT THE M. T. I. A. SEMINAR HELD IN MELBOURNE ON
THURSDAY, 21 JUNE. 1973
In accepting your invitation, I must say I had some
reservations about your promotional brochure.
It says: " If you open this folder, you are in for
a shock." Well, nobody resists that sort of come-on; so I did
open it. And what do I find?
A splendid likeness and the words " Keynote E. G. Whitlam,
Prime Minister of Australia."
And indeed, it is not made quite clear in your promotion

APPOINTIeNT OF AMBA3SADOR TO VENEZUELA
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr" 1hitlam, announced
today the appointment of Mr F. T. Homer as Austral ' s first
Ambassador to Venezuela. Mr Homer, who is at present Australia's
Ambassador to Brazil, will be resident in Brasilia and make
periodic visits to Venezuela.
Mr Homer was born in 1917 and was educated
at Christian Brothers High School and University of Sydney. He
has served in Singapore, The Hague, Ottawa and Rangoon and as
