Statement by the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies
A statement is being released in London tonight
concerning the Commonwealth Foundation. Commonwealth Governments
have appointed Sir IvMacfarlane Burnet, to be the first
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation. The
statement is as follows

Statement by the Prime Minister, Sir Robert MIenzies
I am glad to announce the engagements which Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother has been pleased
to accept during her visit to Canberra from 2nd to 7th
April next year. In the course of her visit to Canberra, Her
Majesty will visit the Snowy Mountains Scheme from Monday,
4th to '. ednesday, 6th 1pril, 1966. The details of the
Canberra and Snowy itinerary are attached,

RHODESIA
I wish to inform the House of measures in the financial
and economic fieldwvhich the Government has decided to take
against the illegal administration in Rhodesia. These measures
are additional to those that I announced on 16th November.
They are taken in the belief that peaceful measures are
preTerable to military measures ana that, in order to minimise
the ultimate damage to Rhodesia, the sooner the sanctions

DROUGHT ASSISTANCE
In reply to a question by the Honourable Member for
Bendigo on 30th November I said that I hoped to be in a position
shortly to let the House know of the results of the Commonwealth
Government's consideration of recent approaches we have had from
the States of New South Wales and Queensland for financial
assistance to enable them to undertake additional relief measures

ROYAL VISIT 1966
It was announced in Canberra today that Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother had been pleased
to approve the appointment of Mr. D. R. Colquhoun, a
senior member of the editorial staff of the Adelaide
" Advertiser", to act as Commonwealth Press Liaison
Officer for her visit to Australia next year4
Mr. Colquhoun is 34 years of age. He has
had overseas experience in London and has been associated
as a journalist with many Royal functions.

I don't quite understand how you accumulate
papers. Mine, such as I have, are always in a state of chronic
disorder, but every time I see ir. ', hite, the Librarian, he

PRESENTATION OF DEAKIN PAPERS 

Papers of critical importance to the record of Australian history were received today by the Prime Minister for the National Library in Canberra. They are the personal papers and records of Alfred Deakin, one of the major figures in the Federation Movement, three times Prime Minister and the dominating personality of the early Commonwealth.

DIPLOMATIC APPOINTMENTS TO THE NETHERLANDS AND PAKISTAN
The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, in his capacity as
Acting Minister for External Affairs, has announced the appointment of
two Heads of Australian Diplomatic Missions abroad.
Mr C. T. Moodie has been appointed Australian Ambassador to
