DIPLOMATIC APPOINTMENTS TO THE NETHERLANDS AND PAKISTAN
The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, in his capacity as
Acting Minister for External Affairs, has announced the appointment of
two Heads of Australian Diplomatic Missions abroad.
Mr C. T. Moodie has been appointed Australian Ambassador to
The Netherlands and Mr T. W. Cutts, Australian High Commissioner in
Pakistan. Mr Moodie will succeed Mr A. R. Cutler, who was
recently appointed Governor of New South Wales. Mr Moodie was educated
at Saint Peter's College, Adelaide, and the University of Adelaide. He is
a barrister and solicitor. Mr Moodie is a senior officer of the Department
of External Affairs, which he joined in 1937. He has served in New Delhi
and Washington and in London as External Affairs Officer. He was
Minister, and later Ambassador to Burma from 1954 to 1957. Since 1957
he has served in the Department of External Affairs. Mr Moodie is married
with one son and two daughters, and is expected to take up his new
appointment in January.
The new High Commissioner in Karachi, Mr Cutts, will succeed
Mr D. W. McNicol, who recently left Karachi to take up a new appointment
as High Commissioner in New Zealand.
Mr Cutts, who was educated at Melbourne High School and the
University of Melbourne, is a career officer of the Department of External
Affairs which he joined in 1946 after wartime service in the Navy. He
has served overseas in Singapore; Ottawa; the Australian Mission to the
United Nations in New York; Moscow; and San Francisco, where he was
Consul-General from 1960 to 1962. Since 1963 he has been Australian
Ambassador in the Philippines.
Mr Cutts is married, with two sons. He is expected to take up
his new appointment in February.
