Sir Robert It gives me very great pleasure indeed to be here
and to be here under the chairmanship of such an old and valued
friend as yourself. I was provided with these brochures myself and,
unlike most of you, I read them closely. ( Laughter)

œ 100,000 to the Churchill Memorial Trust Fund,

If you look at your programme you will see that
you are about to listen to an oration. ( Laughter) This is
a sort of university practice. In some cases I an called on
to make a speech. In some cases, rather deceptively, to say
a few words; ( Laughter) but at any university gathering it
turns out to be an oration, but I assure you it won't be.

The Prime Minister announced today that the Rt.
Hon. Mr. Arthur Bottomley, Secretary of State for Commonwealth
Relations would be visiting Australia from 26th April to
2nd May. The Prime Minister said he had met Mr. Bottomley
while he was in London last month and he was looking forward
to receiving him in Canberra.

had discussions this afternoon on the economic situation
with representatives of a group of national organisations
representing industry and commerce. After the meeting the
Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies, said that this had been
a further meeting in the series of discussions commenced by
the Government three years ago to obtain a first-hand account

Statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Menzies
I have written to the Premiers proposing a
meeting for the purpose of reviewing the financial assistance
grants to the States. The present arrangements were worked
out in 1959 between the Commonwealth and the States, and
were given effect on the understanding that they would carry
on for a period of six years. This period terminates on
June. Ordinarily I would wish to have the replies

This is not really my day. This is the Treasurer's day. The Treasurer has had all the travail of bringing into existence simultaneously a Mint and a near system of currency, and if anybody thinks that is easy, he should have been with us at any time over the last two or three years. And so this is the Treasurer's day and I don't want to steal any portion of it from him.

The Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies cdnnounced
today that the Government had offered an immediate gift
of 5,550,000 bushels of wheat to India.
Sir Robert said " The Government has been
keeping in very close touch for some time with the food
situation in India. ' Very recently we learned from the
Indian Government that because of unexpected delays in
the arrival of imported supplies of wheat from some areas,

The Prime Minister announced today that on medical
advice, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester have postponed their
arrival in Australia by one week and will not arrive until
Saturday, March Their Royal Highnesses have informed the Prime
Minister how sorry they are for any inconvenience
which may be caused by this decision.
