M1r. Harold Holt on his arrival in Bangkok, Thailand.

This morning I was with Australian servicemen
commemorating Anzac Day at their operational base in Vietnam.
Less than two hours later, this afternoon, I was
with the Australian Air Force Squadron at Ubon.
The fact that I w-s able to visit Australian Forces
in Vietnam and Thailand in this short space of time is a

This morning sees the conclusion of my official visit
to Vietnam. Later today I visit Ubcn in Northern Thailand where
an Australian Air Force squadron is stationed.
From there I go to Bangkok, and subsequently to
various centres where Australian forces are serving in Malaysia
and Singapore. I am deeply appreciative of the welcome which has been
given to me in Vietnam and of the many evidences of friendship and

It is 51 years today since Australian, New Zealand,
other British and allied forces stormed the heights of Gallipoli
and together wrote an imperishable chapter in the history of our
two countries. It wasn't a military success in that the objectives,
the military objectives, were not achieved, but it was a victory

a dinner to return hospitality extended to
him during his visit to Saigon. The Prime
Minister of South Viet Nam Air Vice-Marshal
Ky, was the principal guest. 24TH APRIL, 1966
Mr. Holt said I would like to thank you again, Mr. Prime Minister,
for the warm welcome which you and members of your Government
have given me during my visit. I will leave Viet Nam with a
lasting impression of The courtesies and kindnesses which I have
received as your guest.

I am at the beginnin7 of a short 7isit to
South-East Asian countries which will take me in the coming days
to Viet Nam, Thailand, Malaysia ( includinr a visit to Kuchin*
in Sarawak) and Sinpapore. At this time J am in Singapore
purely in transit, but I shall be meetina Singapore Ministers
for discussions at a later stage in my tour.
