FUTURE PROGRAMME OF BZF ROAD DEVELOPMENT IN THE NORTH
I am pleased to announce to Honourable Members that the
Premiers of Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia
have accepted a Commonwealth offer to provide, over the seven
year period from 1st July 1967, non-repayable grants totalling
350 million for the further development of beef roads in
Northern Austrelia.

before this gathering of people from the Australian Parliament

VICTORIAN BUSHFIRE ASSISTANCE
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. Harold Holt
I have been in touch with the Army authorities to ask
them to hold themselves in readiness in case of requests from
Victoria for assistance in fighting the bushfires.
I spoke to the Victorian Premier, Sir Henry Bolte. this
afternoon and told him that if help was needed, he would find the
Commonwealth only too willing to be of such assistance as might
be required. Sir Henry expressed appreciation for the offer. Help

Three and a half million people had visited the Australian
Favilion at Expo 67 when the E: position closed at the weekend.
The Australian Favilion had been open since April as part of
the international Exposition arranged by Canada to mark its Centennial
of Confederation. The number of visitors was more than 5C( 1 greater than the
most ortimistic estimates of the -lanners and the Favilion itself received
very high ratings from commentators and critics.

The Honourable Gordon Freeth, Minister for Shiring and
Transport, w'll represent the P ustral'an Government at the funeral of
the late Mr. Shigeru Yoshida, former Prime Minister of Japan. The
funeral w411 take place in Tokyo at 2. 00 p. m. on October 31st.
VWth Mr. Yoshida's death, one of the greatest of postwar
statesmen has passed from the scene. He dealt with the problems of
