Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
It is with very great pleasure, Mr President, that we
welcome you, your wife, and your distinguished party to
Australia. This is only the second occasion on which Australia has
received a visit from the President of the Republic of
Korea. I note with pride, Mr President, that with the

I have today taken action under the Public Service Act to recommend to the Governor General the unattachment of Mr Charles Perkins, AO from his position of Secretary of the Department of Aboriginal Affairs.

I very much regret the need to take this action. Charles Perkins has dedicated many years of his life to the advancement of the Aboriginal people.

JOINT STATEMENT WITH THE MINISTER FOR HOUSING AND AGED CARE,
THE HON PETER STAPLES
The Federal Government will increase support for homeless
people by an extra $ 40 million over the next three years,
the Prime Minister, Mr Hawke and Housing Minister, Mr
Staples, jointly announced today.
The increased funds will be offered to the States over three
years as part of a new Commonwealth-State program to assist
the homeless.

Tonight the final curtain falls on the biggest single event
of the Bicentennial celebrations: World Expo 88. I believe
the applause for this event will ring on loudly for many

Presijient Roh Tae Woo of the Republic of Korea will visit
Australia from 5 to 8 November 1988 at the invitation of the
Australian Government. President Roh will be accompanied by
his wife and a party of senior political figures and
officials. He will visit Sydney and Canberra.
The Republic of Korea is a major industrial country of the
Pacific Rim and is of great Significance to Australia.
Trade and economic cooperation between our two countries are

Your Majesty,
Your Royal Highness,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
I know, Your Majesty, that this is not your first visit to
Australia. However, it is your first visit as Queen of the
Netherlands and indeed this is the first time the reigning
monarch of the Netherlands has ever visited our shores.
