Presijient Roh Tae Woo of the Republic of Korea will visit
Australia from 5 to 8 November 1988 at the invitation of the
Australian Government. President Roh will be accompanied by
his wife and a party of senior political figures and
officials. He will visit Sydney and Canberra.
The Republic of Korea is a major industrial country of the
Pacific Rim and is of great Significance to Australia.
Trade and economic cooperation between our two countries are
expanding rapidly, and the cultural and political aspects of
our relationship are also developing.
Apart from a short visit to New York to address the United
Nations, this will be President Roh's first overseas state
visit since assuming office.
I will be discussing a range of current bilateral issues
with President Roh as well as reviewing with him regional
and global developments. President Roh will meet the
Governor-General and also have discussions with Ministers
who have portfolio interests in the Australia-Korea
