The Prime Minister, Mr Hawke, and the Premier of New South
Wales, Mr Wran, today announced an extension of time for
the Royal Commission headed by Mr Justice Stewart to conduct
its inquiries into the activities of the Nugan Hand Group.
Mr Justice Stewart has already presented his first interim
report which covered three of the Royal Commission's terms of
reference. In summary, these terms of reference required an
exairination of whether there had been any improper interference

PRIME MINISTER'S EPAC PRESS STATEMENT
The Economic Planning Advisory Council held its
third meeting today.
The Prime Minister said that he had been heartened
by the spirit of co-operation in which today's discussions
had been held. He also emphasised the role of EPAC in
bringing views to the Government.
In this spirit, he had invited the non-Commonwealth
members of the Council to bring forth at the next meeting
papers or ideas on desirable medium to long-term paths to
greater economic growth.

The Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Mr Everingham,
has clearly won the support of the electors of the Territory.
I congratulate him on the result which he achieved in
yesterday's election.
The Federal Government will now continue to work with the
Northern Territory Government for the interests of all of
the people of the Territory.
While the Federal Government will consult the N. T. Government
on issues relevant to the Territory it will not be deterred from
