I have been asked about reports of the settlement of the terms of the contract of the former General Manager of the Australian Bicentennial Authority, Dr David Armstrong.  In recent weks I have had several discussions with the Chairman of the ABA, Mr John Reid, about both specific criticism of the ABA and the plans that were being made for the 1988 celebrations.

I am delighted to be here today to launch the Australian
Bicentennial Exhibition, a major project in the
Commonwealth Government's National Bicentennial Program.
The Commonwealth will provide $ 19 million towards this
exciting, innovative project with a most significant
contribution of $ 6 million being made by BHP. It is

and acvo strategy though I don't in any sense say that
now because of what I said yesterday. It's very hard to understand
( EVAJ. just how much he'll be xf .' nJ so I don't want
to add to it. But I think he would be the first to admit that
his planning and handling of it were somewhat less than perfect.
LAWS: I agree with that and I'm quite sure that he is suffering

The Prime Minister, Mr Bob Hawke, today announced details of the
Australian Bicentennial Exhibition, a major project being funded
uhder the Commonwealth Government's National Bicentennial Program
and organised by the Australian Bicentennial Authority.
The Federal Government will contribute $ 19m towards the Exhibition
while the Australian company, BHP, will provide additional
sponsorship of $ 6m.
Mr Hawke said it was fitting that BHP, Australia's largest

I know of Stan Kelly from a mutual friend between our
two generations, John Crawford. Sir John's Inaugural
Stan Kelly Memorial Lecture in 1977 laid out some ideas
on which we later worked together in the Study Group on
Structural Adjustment.
