The Federal Government has appointed Mr Jim Kirk, AO, as Chairman
of the Australian Bicentennial Authority.
Mr Kirk will take up his appointment immediately.

The Heads of the Public Service of five countries will meet in
Canberra this week to discuss the reforms that are transforming
the public sector in Westminster type democracies.
Public Service chiefs from the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland
and New Zealand will meet with the Australian Public Service
Board to discuss modernisation of their Governments'
, administrations.
As the Public Service in parliamentary democracies has grown in
size and complexity it has become clear that radical reform is

NAVY TO MOVE FROM PRIME SYDNEY WATERFRONT SITE
The largest waterfront site occupied by the Defence Force in
Sydney is to be relinquished by the Commonwealth for
qivilian use in the early 1990s.
This was announced jointly by the Prime Minister, Mr. Hawke,
and the NSW Premier, Mr Wran, at a news conference on board
HMAS Adelaide in Sydney today.

Operation Noah a national phone-in campaign against drugs to
be held in all States and Territories on Wednesday 13 November
deserves the support of all Australians.
As part of the National Campaign against Drug Abuse, the Federal
Government is providing extra resources to law enforcement
agencies. But to be fully effective, our law enforcement agencies need the
support of the community.
That is where Operation Noah comes in.
operation Noah is a community-based approach to the drug menace.

the economic indicators continue to point to a basically sound economy. -Yet
our dollar does seem to be having troubles. What has gone wrong?
PM: Well, the basic area of concern is in the current
account and it was known tljat we would have troubles with
the current account for a while even when the devaluation
