JONES: The Prime Minister, Mr Hawke, has broken many
records during his Prime Ministership and since his
accession to the leadership of the Labor Party. In March
this year he became the only Labor leader in Australian
political history to ever be elected to lead his Party
for a fourth term in office. Today another milestone.

The Prime Minister of Malta, the Honourable Edward
Fenech-Adami, accompanied by his wife Mrs Fenech-Adami,
will visit Australia from 5 to 16 August as guest of the
Government. Prime Minister Fenech-Adami will be accompanied by the
Minister for Social Policy, Dr Louis Galea and Mrs Galea.
The delegation will visit Western Australia, South
Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales as
well as Canberra during the 15-day visit.

I will attend the 21st South Pacific Forum meeting in
Vanuatu from 29 July 1 August. The South Pacific Forum
is the premier organisation of the region and its annual
meeting provides the opportunity for regional Heads of
Government to exchange views and deliberate on matters of
regional concern.
While in Vanuatu I will hold discussions with Prime
Minister Father Walter Lini and members of his Government
on questions of mutual interest, including bilateral
issues and broader regional developments. Australia has

At the invitation of Prime Minister Rabble Namaliu, I
will make an official visit to Papua New Guinea from
Sunday 2 September to Thursday 6 September.
Papua New Guinea is one of Australia's most important
regional neighbours, with which we share many strategic,
political and economic interests.
My visit to Papua New Guinea will return Mr Namaliu's
visit to Australia last year.
