SENATE ELECTIDN
Mr Speaker, the Senate will be aware that
to fulfil the requirements of the Constitution, the next
Senate election must be held before 30 June 1971.
Accordingly, the Government has decided to
invite His Excellency the Governor-General to communicate
with the State Governors proposing that the next Senate
election be held on Saturday 21 N-ovember 1970.

ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE MEMORIAL
Statement b-the Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton
On behalf of the Commonwealth Government, the National Capital
Development Commission is inviting entries from Australian sculptors who would
be interested in the design and execution of a Royal Australian Air Force Memorial
to stand in Anzac Parade, Canberra.
The nature of the Memorial and the sculptor to undertake it will be
announced in March next year to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Royal

Mr. Speaker, I received approximately two hours ago, a copy of Sir H-enry
Bolte's Budget Speech, and I have noted the statement in that speech that it is not the
intention of the Victorian Government to seek an appropriation from the Victorian
Parliament for the purpose of paying payroll tax to the Commonwealth. Sir Henry

remarks and advice to conscientious objectors?
PM Because Mr Whitlam as the Leader of the Opposition and the alternative
Prime Minister is actively urging a breach of the law, is actively urging
the destruction of the defence forces. He is quite unequivocally saying that

INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton
The Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, Sir Alan
Westerman, was tonight appointed by the Cabinet to the position of Executive
Chairman of the Australian Industry Development Corporation.
Following Sir Alan's appointment, eight part-time Directoro of
outstanding financial and commercial abilities will be chosen to sit on
the Board of the Corporation.
