PREMIERS' CONFERENCE AND LOAN COUNCIL
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton
Arrangements have now been completed with the
State Premiers for meetings of the Premiers' Conference and
the Australian Loan Council to be held in Canberra on Thursday
26 June, continuing if necessary on Friday 27 June.
I will preside at the Premiers' Conference and
Mr. McMahon, as Treasurer, will be Chairman of the Loan

PARLIAMENT HOUSE SITE
29 May 1969
The debate on the siting of the new and permnanent
Parliament House has now proceeded over something like the last
9 months. It resulted initially from the Government's decision
of last August to have a free non-party vote on the question of a site.
That debate provided a full opportunity for members and senators
to express their views, and most of them did.

You do my wife and I a very great honour tonight and we
are touched by what has been said and by the welcome you have given
us. We find it quite heartwarming and we thank you for it.
You, Sir, mentioned the espousal or somebody
mentioned the espousal of Jewish causes. I do not think that what
motivates me or what motivates most Australians is a desire to espouse

If you were asked questions about why you haven't
told them about Pine Gap or the F-Ills, why they are crashing, how
will you answer them?
If they ask me why are the F-llls crashing, I will say
all aeroplanes in the course of development have a number of crashes.
The F-ills at this stage of their development have had less crashes
than any other aircraft. As to when we are getting them I can only
answer by saying not until we are thoroughly satisfied that they are

On June the 7th you will elect a representative for
Bendigo to the Federal Parliament. I ask you to elect Warren
Cambridge, the Liberal Party candidate, to help me and my
Government. He's Bendigo born and bred, active in community
service and, of course, was Mayor of Bendigo last year. He knows
Bendigo's special problems and can raise those problems where it

COMMEMORATIVE AIR RACE
Statement by the Prime Minister, Mr. John Gorton
The Commonwealth Government will give its support to
a proposed air race from England to Australia to commemorate the
anniversary of the historic flight by Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith
in 1919. We have offered a grant of $ 25, 000 towards the cost of
the project, which the Royal Federation of Aero Clubs of Australia is
planning to stage at the end of this year. The Commonwealth offer is
made subject to the Federation demonstrating that it can raise
