JOINT STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER AND THE
PREMIER OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
THE BANK OF ADELAIDE
The Premier of South Australia, Mr David Tonkin, called on
the Prime Minister and Mr Philip Lynch, Minister for Industry
and Commerce, representing the Acting Treasurer, in Melbourne
today to clarify the position of the Bank of Adelaide with
regard to Commonwealth Government policies.

ELECTORATE TALK
During last week what has now become known as the Finnane Report
was tabled in the New South Wales Parliament.
This was a report compiled on the directions of the Attorney-General
of Mr Walker, on behalf of the N. S. W. Labor government.
It is important that the nature of the Report be understood and
it is also important that the role of the N. S. W. Government be
understood. Mr Finnane was asked to enquire into the business
affairs of a number of companies which Mr Sinclair, former

HIGH COURT JUSTICE APPOINTED TO PRIVY COUNCIL
The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, announced today that
Sir Ninian Stephen, a Justice of the High Court of
Australia, had been appointed as a member of the Privy Council
by the Queen. The appointment of Sir Ninian follows similar
appointments of the Chief Justice, Sir Garfield Barwick, in
1964 and Sir Harry Gibbs in 1972.
The appointment follows the decision announced at the
conclusion of the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference

THE RESIGNATION OF THE RT. HON. IAN SINCLAIR, M. P.
I have received a letter from the Rt. Hon. Ian Sinclair, M. P.
resigning his portfolio as Minister for Primary Industry, and
resigning also his position as Leader of the House of
Representatives. I shall recommend to His Excellency that
Mr. Sinclair's resignation from his ministerial portfolio be
accepted. It is a matter of great regret to me and to the Government that
Mr. Sinclair has felt obliged to take this step while any action

Mr. Michael Cook, a senior career officer of the
Department of Foreign Af fairs, currently Deputy High
Commissioner in London, is to be appointed to a new
position of Chief Executive Officer in charge of the
Prime Minister's Private Office.
Following announcemenc of Mr. Darcy Tronson ' s return
to the. Liberal Party Federal Secretariat from the position
of Principal Private Secretary, the Prime minister has
decided to re-organise his private office. There will be

Mr. Ian Sinclair has resigned as the Minister for: Pr , ary
Industry, following a report tabled in the N. S. W. Parliament
accusing him of forgery and manipulation in the finances of

It's been a very difficult evening. It's been a very difficult
evening f or Ian Sinclair. He has had the best interests of
the Government very much in mind and that is appreciate by
Doug Anthony and myself.--by all his colleagues. He believed
that the action that he has action is in the best interests
of the Government and I haven't the slightest doubt that

John Haslem, Jim Leedman and his team, ladies and gentlemen.
It is good to be here tonight, and good to see so many
people coming to this annual ACT Liberal Party function.
I have been asked to speak about Canberra, and I wanted
to try and say something about the future how I believe
Canberra is going to develop as a greater and greater national
capital capturing the pride of all Australians.
