QUADRANT'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER
I am very happy to be here tonight to celebrate with you the
anniversary of Quadrant. Little magazines traditionally
suffer from a high rate of infant mortality and few of them
attain their majority. That Quadrant has done so, that indeed
it seems set to go on to a vigorous and robust middle age, is
very much a matter for congratulation.
The extent of Quadrant's success in pursuing its goals and

THE QUEEN'S VISIT
I announced on 20 November 1980 that The Queen, accompanied
by The Duke of Edinburgh, would visit Australia in September
and October 1981 to be present in Melbourne when the
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is held there and to
visit Tasmania, Western Australia and South Australia.
The Queen h as now approved a programme of engagements in
Melbourne 26 September-3 October, Tasmania 5-6 October,
Perth 6-9 October, and Adelaide 9-12 October.

WAGE DETERMINATIO N AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
STATEMENT FROM THE PREMIERS' 1 CONFERENCE
The Premiers' Conference meeting in Canberra today expressed
strong support for Australia's established system of wage
fixation involving Commonwealth-and State tribunals.
It was the responsibility of all Governments and all parties
involved to make the system work.
The Commonwealth and State tribunals provide an avenue through

The Prime Minister and Ministerial colleagues met with
representatives of the Confederation of Australian Industryin
Canberra today.
Both parties agreed that there had been misunderstandings
about the impact of the abandonment of the wage indexation
system by the Conciliation and Arbitration Commission.

VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF THAI LANID'>
The Prime Minister of Thailand, His Excellency General
Prem Tinsulanonda will make an informal visit to
Australia from 31 August to 3 September.
I welcome the opportunity for substantive discussions
with Pri me Minister Prem on matters of mutual interest
and hope that the visit will provide him with
opportunities to see aspects of Australia of particular
interest.

SPECIAL GRANTS FOR QUEENSLAND AND THE NORTHERN TERRITORY
The Vrime Minister, Mr Fraser, announced today that in
1981r82Queensland would receive special grants of
$ 58.5 million and the Northern Territory would receive an
additional assistance grant of $ 20 million. These grants
are general purpose revenue payments and are in addition to
the grants payable under the States .( Tax Sharing and Health
Grants) Act 1981.
