ELECTORATE TALK
This week, millions of Australians have received more cash in
their pay packets simply because of the Government's personal
income tax indexation policies. The amounts of extra " take-hone"
pay are significant.
For example, a taxpayer with a dependent spouse earning a weekly
wage of $ 200 which is about the level of average weekly
earnings will have his weekly take-home pay boosted by
$ 3.45. This represents an annual benefit of $ 187.50.

ADDRESS TO W. A. LIBERAL COUNCIL PERTH
It is very good to be in Perth again and a great pleasure to
address this Council.
You have all undoubtedly had a very interesting week watching the
A. L. P. Conference go through its routines. Bob Hawke, having
been unable to get a safe Labor seat, announced that if he
was not given leadership of the Labor Parliamentary Party, he
would not go into Parliament. It seems that even two hats

by the Commissioners of the European Economic Community to
withdraw their request to Australia to impose a voluntary

In response to these requests he said:

Commissioners not to press their formal request
for restraint on Australia's steel exports.
This will be very important for the maintenance

S Y D N E Y
It is a great pleasure to attend the official opening of this,
the 19th AustraliansLegal Convention.
This morning I wish to say a few words about what I believe to be
the unprecedented programme of law reform which is now being
pursued by the Commonwealth Government.
In the last 18 months, there have been: a restructuring of the

PRIME. MINISTER'S ADDRESS TO THE. NATION : 3 JULY .19.77
It was good to return to Australia last Tuesday after discussions
in the United Kingdom, Europe and in the United States. I would
like to take a few moments to touch on three aspects: the
Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in London, relations
between the United States and Australia, relations between the
European Economic Community and * Australia, and their importance
to Us.

new tax sharing arrangements.
Under tax sharing, the states and local government authorities
already have access to, and a guaranteed share of, income tax
revenues. In the next stage the states will be able to increase
or decrease their shares of those revenues by increasing or

some of the more important parts of the visit as I see it.
The visit started with the rather lengthy Commonwealth Heads
of Government meeting and that did provide a very useful opportunity
to get to know and to meet at first hand a number of leaders in the
Commonwealth whom I otherwise would not have had an opportunity to
see. But two or three things came out of that meeting and there
was as you know the outright condemnation of Uganda overwhelmingly
