PRIME MINISTER 22 NOVEMBER 1978
STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER ON THE
NEW AND PERMANENT PARLIAMENT
HOUSE
Mr Speaker, for the first 27 years of its existence, the
Commonwealth Parliament operated in borrowed premises. In
1913 an international competition was announced for the design
of a permanent Parliament House in the new national Capital.
This was first deferred and then cancelled due to the world
war. Since coming to Canberra in 1927 the Parliament has operated

AUSTRALIAN WOOLGROWERS' AND GRAZIERS' COUNCIL
CANBE RRA
This is the first time, and as you know probably the last time,
that I will be addressing an A. W. G. C. convention. The Council
can look back with pride on the many achievements it and its
predecessors have made since the formation of the Pastoralists
Federal Council in 1890.
Particularly we can recall the successful campaign in the
1930' s to win the support of the industry and the Government

PRIME MINISTER AND MR HAWKE ON INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES.
Roger Climpson:
Prime Minister Fraser indicated today that the Government will
take a much tougher line in future in industrial disputes.

There are always discussions, and if you wait for one lot of

ELECTORATE TALK
The announcement of a further reduction in home mortgage
interest rates is a timely reminder of the success of the
Government's anti-inflation policies. This cut that
will benefit hundreds of thousands of Australian families
could not have been achieved without firm and steady
economic management. It could not have been achieved if the
Government had been diverted from its fight against
inflation.
The interest rates cut which follows a similar reduction

Prime Minister interviewed by Press on Oil Tanker Drivers dispute.
Question: Wilson)
P. M. why have you decided to ask the Arbitration Commission
to adjourn the National Wage Case?
Prime Minister:
Well I think we need to understand that there is a particularly
unreasonable dispute on, which is now tying up oil supplies
right throughout Australia. This isn't an argument really
between employees and an employer, it is an argument within
a union within one union, it's not even a demar-cation dispute

Interview with Campbell High School final year students.
The purpose of life, I think, is to spend your time constructively
and usefully.
People should pay a great deal of attention to the nature of the
occupation they want to fill. It is very important to be happy
in whatever you do.
There are many people who might be able to do a different job which
will give them higher wages, but unless there is happiness in the
work you are doing, contentment in the work you are doing, I don't

ADDRESS TO THE NATION
Last week in Melbourne all the State Premiers, the Federal
Treasurer, John Howard, and myself came to an agreement that
will have far reaching consequences for the future development
of all the States of Australia.
We were able to do this only because of the hard decisions
we have taken over recent years, and because of the progress
we have already made towards economic recovery.
Tonight I want to report to you about that progress, and

ITALIAN COMMITTEE OF CO-ORDINATION BALL
The Italian Community is a very significant and much
respected part of the Australian community. It was not
always so significant. At Federation, about 95% of
immigrant Australians were of British descent only some
5,000 people out of 3.7 million were of Italian descent.
That's about 1/ 8th of one pericent of the population!
Australia today, with our very large and important Italian
