PRIME MINISTER INTERVIEWED ON " NATIONWIDE", A. B. C. TV,
ON TRUCKIES' DISPUTE
Interview with Ted Stevens preceded interview.
Ques tion:
Prime Minister, you heard Ted Stevens say they want " the lot".
What is your reaction?
Prime Minister:
I don't think anyone in the Australian commrunity can demand
to be paid just what he himself believes he is worth. Now*
whether that applies to you or to anyone else, or to me, it
is just not going to work that way. We'd send the nation

ELECTORATE TALK
Today, perhaps more than ever, Australians are aware of how
much we rely on our country's great natural wealth. We are
abundant in minerals; have vast reserves of gas and oil; and
have millions of acres of land under wheat, sheep and cattle.
Our wealth springs from the land. In the past people sometimes
were careless of our natural heritage. Too often people moved
into new areas, settled, knocked down bush, planted crops and
sowed grasses without any real concern for the consequences.

PRIME MINISTER'S COMMENTS TO PRESS IN PERTH
( TRUCK DRIVERS DISPUTE)
Prime Minister:
Neville Wran's been up on Razorback apparently most of the day,
or a fair bit of it. He's not said what's come out of that and at

basically decided on Saturday but which the State Ministers
didn't put out in terms of a statement. In other words, if

I am delighted to be in Western Australia and to be amongst
sportsmen and sportswomen. It is indeed an honour to be asked

hockey associations of Western Australia.
It is a matter of regret that the late Eric Eastman whose

COMMENTS TO PRESS IN ALICE SPRINGS
This is a strike that very directly involves State legislation
and it is a strike, or a dispute therefore, between the
truckies and in varying degrees different State Governments.
It is a dispute in particular between the truckies that
industry and New South Wales and as much as anything I think
because of the immediate and knee-jerk reaction that Mr. Wran
had in rushing legislation through the State Parliament when
the normal thing in a beginning of a dispute is to see if you

C. S. I. R. O0. RANGE LANDS' LABORATORY

It's twelve months almost to the day that I last visited
Alice Springs. I enjoyed myself immensely last time, and
I was delighted to receive this invitation to open the
C. S. I. R. 0. ' s new Range Land'Is Laboratory.
Knowing the C. S. I. R. O. scientists' awsome thirst for knowledge,
it's not surprising that the C. S. I. R. O. has played such
a prominent role in rangelands research. The C. S. I. R. O.
