ESTABLISWENT OF TRADE DEVELOPMENT
CENTRE IN MELBOURNE~
The Government has decided to establish a Trade Development
Centre in Melbourne to assist fu: ther developing countries.
The Centre will be available to all developing countries
as a venue for trade displays and related trade development
activities. It will feature: a program of small national
and international trade displays; seminars for businessmen
and officials from developing countries on trade promotion
and export development topics; " on-the-job" training in
market research and trade development planning.
A similar Centre is already operating in Sydney.
The I. Melbourne Trade Development Centre will be located in the
World Trade Centre, This will be of particular advantage,
bearing in mind its proximity to the M1elbourne business
community. The new Melbourne Trade Centre is expected to
commence operation in 1982.
The Centre will be funded under Australia's overseas aid
program and operated by the Department of Trade and Resources
as part of its iNarket Advisory Service, This Service was
established in 1974 to advise and assist developing countries
in the marketing of their products in Australia. It is of
particular value to devieloping countries with only limited
official representation in Australia. 000---
