AUSTRALIA/ JAPAN SUGAR AGREEMENT
The Prime Minister said today that he was very pleased at the
developments in the negotiations on the Australia/ Japan sugar
contract. Mr.. Fraser was commenting on the interim settlement between the
Australian and Japanese parties regarding the Australian sugar
currently afloat. in-Tokyo. Bay.
The Prime Minister recalled that he had discussed the sugar
contract with the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Fukuda, in Kuala
Lumpur following the post-ASEAN Summit Conference.
Mr. Fraser said he was particularly grateful to Mr. Fukuda for
the contribution he had personally made in advancing the
negotiations on this matter. Mr. Fraser added that he was
hopeful that the issues still outstanding would be quickly
resolved to the satisfaction of all parties concerned.
